Education and course development.

For fit schools, certification bodies, universities and federations that teach cycling biomechanics, or would like to.

Most of this work is rebuilding something that already exists: slides written by four different people, or an assessment nobody can mark the same way twice.

Looking for a course to attend rather than one to build? That's the residential course for fitters.

What the work looks like

Four kinds of job, and most projects are a mix of them.

Curriculum and course design

What a course teaches, in what order, and what someone should be able to do by the end of it. Usually that starts from the programme you already run.

Reworking existing material

Slides, manuals, handouts and videos that have drifted apart over the years. Andy reads the material against the evidence behind it, then marks up what needs rewriting and what can stay.

Assessment and certification

What a candidate has to demonstrate, and how two examiners marking the same candidate end up at the same result. It's usually the weakest part of a fitting qualification, and the hardest to add afterwards.

Teaching, and training your teachers

Delivering the material, or getting your own educators to the point where they can teach it without him. Both were part of the job at Cyclologic Education.

Where this comes from

Andy founded the International Bike Fitting Institute in 2014, as an independent professional body rather than a training provider, because fitting qualifications were impossible to compare from the outside.

From 2020 to 2023 he was Head of Biomechanics at Cyclologic Group, responsible for education across Cyclologic Education, Velogic and Bike Fitter Supply. He designed the global programmes and trained the educators who delivered them.

He has presented five paid webinars and a video series with MotionMetriq. He gave the 2019 IBFI Asia keynote, and has spoken at Science & Cycling and the International Cyclefit Symposium. His own background is research: an MRes in sport science, and a PhD in cycling biomechanics, paused.

How Andy works

Most of this work stays inside the organisations Andy works with, so there's no public client list.

Projects are usually:

  • short, clearly defined pieces of work to start
  • built around written material the organisation keeps
  • designed so your own people can teach it afterwards

Andy is based in Valencia, Spain, and works internationally. Most projects run remotely, with travel where needed.

Technical background

Andy works across a range of tools and systems, including motion capture, pressure mapping, force analysis and aerodynamic testing.

He has built and validated motion capture protocols within Cyclologic Group, and contributed to the development of analysis systems used in practice today.

That matters for teaching. Course material about measurement should be written by someone who knows what the measurement can and can't show.

The easiest way to start is a short email: what you teach, who you teach it to, and what you want to change about it. Andy will come back to you within a few days.
